A Mirror Problem – The Flash S3 E05 Review.

I’ve been a big fan of The Flash so far this season, so many interesting turns and twists. I’m very excited to see what happens with the big bad but for now, lets focus on this weeks episode.

As per, I’ll go through some points and stuff.

Barry gets stuck in a mirror:

This weeks villain was Mirror Master, he has the ability to travel through anything with a reflective surface. Pretty cool if you as me. In there first encounter, Mirror Master throws Barry in to a mirror and he gets stuck. I enjoyed the little novelty where in these mirror worlds people talk backwards so they needed this recording advice that they just had on hand. It was a pretty cool effect and didn’t tear you out of the episode. To get him out though, they had to make the glass really cold so Barry could faze out, however, there machine didn’t make the glass cold enough. Until….

Caitlin gets frosty:

 When everyone leaves the room, Caitlin stands behind the mirror and uses her ice powers to freeze over the mirror and Barry is able to faze out. Nobody knew it was her but Harry and Cisco have their suspicions. Also, at the end of the episode Caitlin is in the shower and everything freezes over around her, maybe she is loosing control of her powers a little bit? In the next two episodes everybody will know about Caitlin and unless she goes bad, nobody will really care.I also wonder if this is Dr. Alchemy’s doing? Maybe she’s getting these powers because of him.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• The relationship stuff between Barry, Iris and Joe was quite funny, I enjoyed the awkwardness a lot.
• The Wally and Jesse moment was a bit odd, he was scared to kiss her because she’s leaving and then they hook up, and she still leaves. what?
• I’m sad to see Harry and Jesse leave and go back to Earth 2 but we have our new Harrison Wells, who looks absolutely hilarious.

Overall, a solid episode really.

Hunting is what our family do – Supernatural S12 E02 Review

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

This week we’re going to talk about another great episode of Supernatural. I don’t know what it is about this season so far but it feels so fresh and new.

Lets take a look through some of the best moments from the episode.

Hunting Lucifer:

Crowley is after Lucifer to try and send him back to the cage so he can take his role back as king of hell. He demands the help of his mother Rowena and together they find out where Lucifer is and create a plan to take him down. Can I just say casting Rick Springfield  as Lucifer is an amazing decision, he will be fantastic. As per usual, Crowley’s plan to send Lucifer back to his cage fails and he runs away, leaving Rowena to become a prisoner of Lucifer’s.

Saving Sam:

Last week we left Sam being tortured by Antonia Bevell, an employee of the British Men of Letters. Dean, Mary and Cas work out where Sam is and they go in to help in. I really enjoy that Dean got himself captured and he relied on his mother to come in and save his dumb ass. Also, we learn that Antonia has been going about her mission in the wrong way according to another BROL agent called Micky. Apparently, she was supposed to come to America to gain the hunters trust and make the country monster-proof. Jared Padalecki has been amazing the past couple of episodes, his acting has been some of the best on TV this year. His speech with his mother towards the end of the episode was so heart felt and emotional. Great stuff.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• I’m really enjoying Cas so far this season, he’s back to old school Castiel and he’s very funny.
• We haven’t seen Dean eat a pie like that in a long time, it reminded me of like season four. That was a nice call back.
• Is this storyline of the BMOL signalling the end of Supernatural? Them getting rid of all the monsters is either set up for next season or everything is coming to a close in a nice happy ending, which I definitely do not want. Happy endings usually suck.

Overall, this was a great episode with some amazing emotional moments.

Something happened this episode right? – Arrow S05 E03 Review

I really don’t know what to say about this episode of Arrow because nothing that good or interesting happened. This will probably end up being a very short review of a very lackluster episode.

If I can think of some, let’s go through some of the major points from the episode.

Diggle in jail:

After last weeks episode where Diggle was thrown into prison, this week we get to see a little bit of what prison life is like for him. We get a great cameo from Deadshot in this episode, who is seemingly sharing a cell with Diggle but we learn that that is John hallucinating, probably because of his guilt. Towards the end of the episode Diggle tells his wife that he isn’t going to fight the false charges against him because he deserves to be in there for killing his brother. However, Lyla takes things into her own hands and goes to Oliver to request him to break Diggle out of jail. Now that I look forward to, sounds awesome.

Look, there is nothing else I can think of that I want to write more than two sentences about. I’m sorry but this episode was just nothing.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• All of the recruits lack identity and character. They are all so generic and a little bit pathetic.
• Felicity and Oliver should just hook up again. Geesh.
• Quentin being deputy mayor is pretty cool, I like that.

Forgive me if i forgot but where had Malcolm Merlyn gone? Did he die last season? I dont think he did? I miss him.

Overall, this episode was boring and I found the only reason I was watching it was because I like the characters, well some of them.

Sorry If I ripped into it a little hard.

Run Jesse, Run – The Flash S03 E03 Review.

Season three of The Flash has started pretty quickly (puns are great) and things are getting very interesting and continue to do so this episode.

Lets go through some moments and stuff. Things. Cool.

Wells and Jesse return:

A breach opens towards the start of the episode and we quickly (I’m going to keep doing that) see that Harrison Wells is back and he has a problem; his daughter Jesse is also a speedster now. If you’ve seen all The Flash you’ll remember Jesse and Wally getting hit by dark matter and that combined with a near death incident, procked Jesse’s powers. Originally, Wells needs the help of team Flash to get them to quickly (that’s three) persuade Jesse to not become a superhero. However, after many of their standard father daughter arguments, Wells decides that he has to let her be who she wants to be and he has to support her down that path. These two have a great on-screen chemistry but I wish they wouldn’t make them argue all the time just for some soap style drama.

Magenta:

The villain of this week is someone called Magenta who we learn existed in Flashpoint and Dr. Alchemy has given her back her powers from that timeline. Team Flash have to quickly (is this annoying? But that’s four) work out what’s going on and they figure out that Magenta is another personality of a foster girl called Frankie. The last fight ends with Barry just giving her a sixty second talking to and Frankie basically forces Magenta out of her mind. Mind you, that big flying boat thing looked pretty good. TV cgi is getting a lot better. Anyway, the character was fine but it just felt a little generic.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• Can Wally quickly (this one is forced but it’s very funny right? RIGHT?!) stop being an idiot about not having powers and just grow up. Idiot.
• Julian Albert is now my favourite character, the accent, the burns on Barry, everything he does is great.
• Is it just me or is Barry just openly using he speed a lot of the time? Like, in front of people. I know he’s done it before but it’s more obvious this year. Especially when he saves Julian from Magenta. I’m not a fan of that.

Overall, this episode was okay. A lot of it was generic but I still think this show is great.

What Are DC Movies Doing Wrong?

First three DCEU movies gross income.

Man of Steel Gross income: $668,045,518

Batman V Superman gross income: $873,260,194

Suicide Squad gross income: $742,845,679
Compare this to the first three MCU movies.

Iron Man gross income: $585,174,22

The Incredible Hulk gross income: $263,427,551

Iron Man 2 gross income: $623,933,331

 

So why are people wanting another DC reboot when the first three movies in their universe have made a lot more money than the first three Marvel movies.

You can’t exactly say that the first three MCU movies are any better because The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 suck.

So what  is going wrong with this DCEU?

Lets take a look through some of the major points.

The movies are too dark:

Critics and people in general are bashing these DCEU movies for being too dark and not for families anymore. This is probably true, one of my friends made me realise that most of Man of Steel is grey and lacking in light. BvS has the same problem, almost the entire movie is during the night which gives the movie a very dull tone. Suicide Squad is better with the lightness but again, most of the movie is set at night. How can DC expect kids to keep buying their actions figures and comics if their movies are so dark, unfunny and kind of boring.

Comparatively, the MCU movies are largely set in the daytime and have lots of comedy with interesting and vibrant characters.

When people are watching a movie, specifically a superhero movie, people need to be constantly engaged with what’s happening on screen and having lots of colours keep things interesting.

The movies aren’t funny:

I’m sat here trying to remember a moment I found funny from Man of Steel but I can’t. The movie is fine but it isn’t funny in any way and isn’t supposed to be. BvS has a couple of amusing moments but that movie is a mess which is unforgivable. Suicide Squad is very funny in parts but sometimes I think it tries too hard to differ from it’s predecessors. If you’re going to pick a tone DC, stick to it!

The MCU movies have found the perfect balance between comedy and action. Therefore, it’s not surprising at all that critics love them and so do every day people.

Superhero movies are a bit silly and you need to embrace that and that’s what Marvel do. DC try and go against superhero tropes all time and it looks like that doesn’t work.

 

Warner Bros and DC messed this up right at the start by saying the DCEU movies are going to be ‘darker and grittier than the Marvel movies’. Why? Why wouldn’t you take influence from a universe that’s massively successful?

I’m not a Marvel fanboy, well I am but I also love DC. Just look at my page, I review mainly DC stuff. I really want these DCEU movies to be amazing and they have to smash one and hit one billion dollars soon enough. I can’t see that being Wonder Woman because I don’t the filming for that started around BvS time so they wouldn’t have learnt from their mistakes because they didn’t exist yet. After seeing the Justice League trailer, I think that could be it. It looks funny, action packed and interesting. If the movie is even somewhat decent it will hit one billion dollars, I guarantee that.

The Top 5 best performers on Game of Thrones.

(Possible spoilers for all of Game of Thrones)

 

5: Rory Mccann as The Hound

Playing a role where your character is full of such hatred for people and life in general can be hard, but for Mccann it seems playing Sandor Clegane comes naturally. His mannerisms are absolutely spot on and he even manages to make the character funny, which in the books is something a bit less prominent. People on the internet have gone crazy with love for this guy and his character, he is fully believable and portrayed amazingly. The Hound is one of my favourite characters from the show and I’m glad he is now one of the most memorable people on the show for everyone.

4: Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish

Since season one, Baelish has been a guy to be feared because he is a very clever man. He is also one of the most slimy and nasty individuals in the whole of Westeros. Personally, I think it takes a lot of skill to pull of Baelish’s tw*t beard and not look like a total idiot. Gillen has the exact look the books describe for Baelish  which is great. The voice Gillen uses for the character is amazing, it gives Petyr a defining and memorable characteristic.Everyone knows about this horrible man and that’s all because of some amazing performances.

3: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister

When I first started watching Game of Thrones, Jaime always stood out as a guy with a lot of hidden emotion and I found that really interesting. The way he plays Jaime makes you really question whether or not this guy is bad and you really want him to thrive and stay loyal to his good tendencies. The bath scene in season three with Brienne is one of my personal standout performances throughout the whole of the show so far, you can see and believe that he is hurting and he doesn’t deserve the hatred he receives. Waldau has really got me invested in his character and his well-being, which means he must be doing something right.

2: Gwendoline Christie as Brienne

In the books, Brienne has her own chapters and everything but I never found her as a person that interesting, I just liked the situations she always found herself in. However, Christie’s portrayal of the character is amazing, she has given Brienne a brutal strength and power that no other female character on the show can say they share. You can see how conflicted the character is emotionally because she doesn’t trust anyone anymore and I love that about her on the show. Finding an actress who looks the part and is capable of playing this role is absolutely fantastic and Christie’s performances have given her character a huge fanbase on the show.

1: Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell

The only character on this list to no longer be alive, yet Pascal’s performance as Oberyn Martell throughout season four is one of the most iconic performances in television. He brought a whole new flair to the show, someone that openly didn’t give a f*ck what the Lannisters said which was fantastic. Most of season four basically relied on people liking Oberyn and people did, the internet went nuts for this guy. Even after his shocking death people are still talking about Pascal and his amazing performance.

Look, I know I have mentioned Tyrion, Jon, Dany, Cersei, Sansa or Arya but these guys are the forefront of the show and in many ways the ‘main characters’. All of them are amazing in their roles but this was just my list with my own opinions.

Mary is back – Supernatural S12 E01 review

This is a first for me on this page, reviewing one of my favourite shows of all time, Supernatural. I’m beyond excited to see what this season holds, let’s get to it.

As always, we’ll go through some of the bigger moments from the episode.

Dean and his mum meet again:

At the end of last season, The Darkness brought back the thing Dean wanted most in the world, his mother Mary. It was a really heart aching moment when they met each other again as Mary didn’t know or recognise Dean until he explained it all. I think a big part of this season will be seeing how Sam and Dean react to their mum (I’m not American, it’s mum over here!) being back and it’ll be interesting to note if their ambitions and relationships change. I’m also guessing that Mary and Castiel will have a pretty fun relationship, I can’t work out whether or not Cas thinks this is a good thing as of yet but there may definitely be some jealousy going on which is kind of funny. Mary’s face when Castiel hugs Dean was fantastic, it was a bit of a wink and a nod to the Destiel fans out there.

Sam and the British Men of Letters:

Season Eleven ended with Sam being shot by a woman claiming to be part of the British Men of Letters. Well, turns out that is true and she is kidnapping Sam to attempt to get locations of hierarchy’s out of him so they can make America safe from monsters. As it so happens, there hasn’t been a single monster related death in Britain since 1965 because they plan for monsters, instead of reacting to them like Sam and Dean do. Well, this lady missed a trick because she took Sam thinking that Dean was dead, but he isn’t and he’s coming after her to kill her and save his brother. I’m sort of expecting a big team up here but I do believe we have many more people from the BMOE (I can’t be bothered to keep typing that out) to meet and see whether or not these guys are arrogant d*cks.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• Watching Crowley follow Lucifer’s tracks is fun. Mark Sheppard plays the role so well and his comedic timing is spot on.
• Seeing the way Mary reacted to killing that other british women was interesting. Maybe she will want a life apart from Sam and Dean?
• Castiel is being very brutal, I think this will be a lot of his arch this season. He’s done taking peoples sh*t.

Overall, it was a good start to season twelve and I’m very excited for next week.

40 minutes of lectures – Arrow S5 E2 Review

We are in to week two of Season five now and after last weeks good showing, we’re hoping it keeps up to the same standard. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

Lets go through some of the better moments from the episode.

Training the recruits:

Oliver is focused on training Mr Terrific, New Black Canary and Wild Dog. However, his brutal ways are pushing them further and further away from helping him. The ever so relevant flashbacks tell us that Oliver went through these same regimes in Russia. After several lectures from Felicity (At least three, maybe fifty. I don’t know) Oliver decides to try and trust his new team some more. He reveals to the recruits that he is indeed Oliver Queen and then they all join. Simple as that. Simple. Fun. I think it’s fun? It isn’t, it’s dumb.

Some weird mummy looking fella:

Throughout this episode there was a guy in bandages going round and strangling people that were involved in the genesis project from last season. He has these weird, unexplained rags that he can somehow control and use to strangle people to death. (Please explain) After a strange bromance on top of a roof, Oliver also recruits this guy as part of their new look team. This guy seems so powerful though? Is he trustworthy? It seemed really out of character for Oliver to recruit him so quickly.

What does Prometheus want?:

At the end of the episode Prometheus takes down Tobias Church and warns him not to kill the Green Arrow, that the Arrow is his to kill. The rag thing over his face, instantly makes me think it could be the rag dude from earlier but that could be a sweet misdirect. I WANT ANSWERS! GIMME!

Overall, this episode was pretty lame, it just felt like everyone was telling Oliver off like they always do. The fighting and Arrow stuff is what kept me interesting, it’s really very good.

Just like pudding – The Flash S3 E2 Review.

What an amazing episode of the Flash that was. This season has began with high form, I’m really enjoying it.

Lets go through a few of the best moments from the episode.

Barry goes to Felicity for help:

After realising that more has changed than he thought, Barry runs to Star City to see if everything is okay there. He meets Felicity and tells her about everything, from Iris and Joe not talking, to Cisco hating Barry and then he finds out that Diggle’s baby has changed gender(okaaaaayyyyyy). I’ve always loved these little crossover moments because it ties everything together; also the on screen chemistry between Felicity and Barry is great, they work well together.

The new ‘roomy’ Julian Albert:

Another change in this timeline is that Barry is now sharing his lab with a guy called Julian Albert who is being played by Tom Felton, better known as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter  universe. He played it amazingly and his character is very funny in the most brutal of ways. Over the course of the episode we see that Julian really doesn’t like Barry and that’s because he doesn’t trust him, he doesn’t believe Barry’s ‘good guy’ act. He’ll either learn that Barry is The Flash and then join the team or he’ll end up helping the big bad….speaking of…..

Meet Dr. Alchemy:

I don’t know too much about Dr. Alchemy to be honest, he’s fairly new to me and he seems quite badass. He shows Edward Clariss he’s other timeline and then is able to shape him in to The Rival in this timeline. I don’t know how he did it but he just gave someone the speed force? whaaaaaaaat? His plan is to prepare the earth by giving the people powers specific to the ones they had in Barry’s Flashpoint timeline. He’s a very different villain to what we have seen before on the Flash and i’m very excited to see where it goes. (Is it too obvious to think that Julian Albert is Dr. Alchemy? hmmmm)

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• I loved seeing Cisco use his powers in a way we haven’t really seen before. He seems quite relaxed with them.
• Caitlyn is ‘Killer Frost’ in this timeline. Barry thinks she hasn’t changed but she has, completely. That’s going to be quite fun.
• Barry deciding not to tell Wally that he will probably be given speed force powers is a big mistake. Just tell him Barry! Don’t be a d*ck.

Overall, this episode was just like pudding and everybody loves pudding!

Arrow S5 E1 Review.

Arrow is back. I think we are all hoping that this season is stronger than the last seeing as last year had the least amount of views than any season before it and was critically smashed down at times.

Lets take a look at a few of the bigger moments from the episode.

Meet Tobias Church:

In the comics, Tobias Church is a small time mob boss and it looks like he will follow a similar path in this season of Arrow. He is definitely a man of many talents, showing how easy it easy for him to get into people’s organisations and break them down from the inside, by getting them to kill their leader.He’s also a complete savage, he has silver knuckle dusters he uses to torture innocents or just beat the crap out of someone that answers back to him. I really enjoyed the performance from the actor, he just looks like he’s having a lot of fun playing a complete d*ck.

The Green Arrow is killing again:

After the death of Laurel last season, Oliver has decided the best way to complete his missions and keep innocents safe is to kill the bad guys; a thing he hasn’t done for a few seasons now. Honestly, I liked it alot. It gives the Arrow a different edge and it actually gets the audience engaged and thinking about whether or not Oliver is the good guy in this story.

A New Team:

Throughout the episode Felicity was nagging Oliver to create a new team because the old one is never coming back. She’s right, the old team will never be getting back together and by the end of the episode Oliver accepts that. The new team members will be Wild Dog, Mr Terrific and the new Black Canary. Personally, the trailers showed this is being ridiculously cheesy, however I really enjoyed how it all came about. It’s going to be really interesting to see how the new team react to the Arrows killing ways.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

• The fighting choreography this episode was absolutely fantastic, they must have hired a new person or something because it was fast, brutal and just really cool to watch.
• Felicity has a new boyfriend. Please no love triangle. PLEASE DON’T. But to be honest he’s probably a bad guy.
• The introduction of Prometheus was good but I don’t want him to just be another imposter, we’ve been through that too many times now.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. It was a very strong premiere.
