40 minutes of lectures – Arrow S5 E2 Review

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

We are in to week two of Season five now and after last weeks good showing, we’re hoping it keeps up to the same standard. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

Lets go through some of the better moments from the episode.

Training the recruits:

Oliver is focused on training Mr Terrific, New Black Canary and Wild Dog. However, his brutal ways are pushing them further and further away from helping him. The ever so relevant flashbacks tell us that Oliver went through these same regimes in Russia. After several lectures from Felicity (At least three, maybe fifty. I don’t know) Oliver decides to try and trust his new team some more. He reveals to the recruits that he is indeed Oliver Queen and then they all join. Simple as that. Simple. Fun. I think it’s fun? It isn’t, it’s dumb.

Some weird mummy looking fella:

Throughout this episode there was a guy in bandages going round and strangling people that were involved in the genesis project from last season. He has these weird, unexplained rags that he can somehow control and use to strangle people to death. (Please explain) After a strange bromance on top of a roof, Oliver also recruits this guy as part of their new look team. This guy seems so powerful though? Is he trustworthy? It seemed really out of character for Oliver to recruit him so quickly.

What does Prometheus want?:

At the end of the episode Prometheus takes down Tobias Church and warns him not to kill the Green Arrow, that the Arrow is his to kill. The rag thing over his face, instantly makes me think it could be the rag dude from earlier but that could be a sweet misdirect. I WANT ANSWERS! GIMME!

Overall, this episode was pretty lame, it just felt like everyone was telling Oliver off like they always do. The fighting and Arrow stuff is what kept me interesting, it’s really very good.

Episode rating: 6.5/10

Lectures: 100000000

Just like pudding – The Flash S3 E2 Review.

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

What an amazing episode of the Flash that was. This season has began with high form, I’m really enjoying it.

Lets go through a few of the best moments from the episode.

Barry goes to Felicity for help:

After realising that more has changed than he thought, Barry runs to Star City to see if everything is okay there. He meets Felicity and tells her about everything, from Iris and Joe not talking, to Cisco hating Barry and then he finds out that Diggle’s baby has changed gender(okaaaaayyyyyy). I’ve always loved these little crossover moments because it ties everything together; also the on screen chemistry between Felicity and Barry is great, they work well together.

The new ‘roomy’ Julian Albert:

Another change in this timeline is that Barry is now sharing his lab with a guy called Julian Albert who is being played by Tom Felton, better known as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter  universe. He played it amazingly and his character is very funny in the most brutal of ways. Over the course of the episode we see that Julian really doesn’t like Barry and that’s because he doesn’t trust him, he doesn’t believe Barry’s ‘good guy’ act. He’ll either learn that Barry is The Flash and then join the team or he’ll end up helping the big bad….speaking of…..

Meet Dr. Alchemy:

I don’t know too much about Dr. Alchemy to be honest, he’s fairly new to me and he seems quite badass. He shows Edward Clariss he’s other timeline and then is able to shape him in to The Rival in this timeline. I don’t know how he did it but he just gave someone the speed force? whaaaaaaaat? His plan is to prepare the earth by giving the people powers specific to the ones they had in Barry’s Flashpoint timeline. He’s a very different villain to what we have seen before on the Flash and i’m very excited to see where it goes. (Is it too obvious to think that Julian Albert is Dr. Alchemy? hmmmm)

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

  • I loved seeing Cisco use his powers in a way we haven’t really seen before. He seems quite relaxed with them.
  • Caitlyn is ‘Killer Frost’ in this timeline. Barry thinks she hasn’t changed but she has, completely. That’s going to be quite fun.
  • Barry deciding not to tell Wally that he will probably be given speed force powers is a big mistake. Just tell him Barry! Don’t be a d*ck.

Overall, this episode was just like pudding and everybody loves pudding!

Arrow S5 E1 Review.

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

Arrow is back. I think we are all hoping that this season is stronger than the last seeing as last year had the least amount of views than any season before it and was critically smashed down at times.

Lets take a look at a few of the bigger moments from the episode.

Meet Tobias Church:

In the comics, Tobias Church is a small time mob boss and it looks like he will follow a similar path in this season of Arrow. He is definitely a man of many talents, showing how easy it easy for him to get into people’s organisations and break them down from the inside, by getting them to kill their leader. He’s also a complete savage, he has silver knuckle dusters he uses to torture innocents or just beat the crap out of someone that answers back to him. I really enjoyed the performance from the actor, he just looks like he’s having a lot of fun playing a complete d*ck.

The Green Arrow is killing again:

After the death of Laurel last season, Oliver has decided the best way to complete his missions and keep innocents safe is to kill the bad guys; a thing he hasn’t done for a few seasons now. Honestly, I liked it alot. It gives the Arrow a different edge and it actually gets the audience engaged and thinking about whether or not Oliver is the good guy in this story.

A New Team:

Throughout the episode Felicity was nagging Oliver to create a new team because the old one is never coming back. She’s right, the old team will never be getting back together and by the end of the episode Oliver accepts that. The new team members will be Wild Dog, Mr Terrific and the new Black Canary. Personally, the trailers showed this is being ridiculously cheesy, however I really enjoyed how it all came about. It’s going to be really interesting to see how the new team react to the Arrows killing ways.

Other moments I did or didn’t enjoy:

  • The fighting choreography this episode was absolutely fantastic, they must have hired a new person or something because it was fast, brutal and just really cool to watch.
  • Felicity has a new boyfriend. Please no love triangle. PLEASE DON’T. But to be honest he’s probably a bad guy.
  • The introduction of Prometheus was good but I don’t want him to just be another imposter, we’ve been through that too many times now.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. It was a very strong premiere.

The Flash S3 E1 Review.

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

After a long wait, The Flash is back for it’s third season. Hopefully, it’s back to give us some god damn answers about why Barry is an absolute idiot.

As per usual, I’ll be going through the main few things from the episode and moments I liked and others that didn’t quite hit the spot.

Wally West Vs The Rival:

Flashpoint is a confusing concept isn’t it? In this new world that’s very difficult to successfully explain, Barry Allen is not the Flash but it is actually Wally West. We also learn that Wally is up against a new speedster known as The Rival. I just have to say, the costumes on both these dudes are top notch, great work. Anyway, Barry teams up with Iris and the original team to take down the Rival. (Oh god I’m confused). I really enjoyed the Rival stuff because he doesn’t seem to be anything like Zoom or the Reverse Flash, he’s very charismatic and just believes he’s the best, it all seems like a bit of fun to him. Wally was a very cool Flash, he acts just like you’d expect a teenager with super-speed to act, like a moron, but I liked it.

Barry needs the Reverse Flash:

With Barry realising that this wasn’t the right move and that he can’t possibly stay in this timeline, he asks the Reverse Flash to take him back to the night his mother died. The Reverse Flash was probably more villainous than ever when he said “What do you need me to do? I want to hear you say it”, that really hit me in the feels. The scenes between those two were quite fantastic really, the acting was superb.

Barry makes it ‘home’:

Barry thinks he’s made it back to his timeline and everything is okay again. Only to find out that something is very wrong. Iris isn’t around and she doesn’t talk to her father. This is exciting because it means we could be seeing another parallel universe or it could mean that Barry has well and truly effed up.

Other good and bad moments:

  • All the Cisco stuff was amazing, very funny. That guy has great comedic timing,
  • I wasn’t too keen on how quickly everything was happening, Flashpoint is such a big deal and it does kind of feel like they are brushing over it very quickly.
  • The Dr Alchemy teaser at the end is great, it opens up so many questions and possibilities.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode of The Flash.

A level Results Day-Good Luck Everyone.

Thousands upon thousands of young people (including myself) will be recieving their results today. We have all worked extremely hard to get to this point and I’m proud of all of us. At the end of the day it really doesn’t matter what your piece of paper says because you can go and do anything you want to, become anything. This is the start of our futures, lets make them great.

Thanks for reading and good luck,

My thoughts on the Telltale Batman game, Episode One.

(This post is dark and full of spoilers)

Telltale games have produced some great stories over the years such as The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us and many many more. When it was announced that they were working on a Batman game, the hype was real and after they released the first episode, it’s pretty safe to say this game will be amazing.

During the first episode we got a lot more of Bruce Wayne than I thought we would which is actually pretty awesome. Bruce is sponsoring Harvey Dent’s application to become the Mayor of Gotham City. However, some news is released that Bruce’s parents were in business with notorious crime boss Carmine Falcone, the family that was once the pride of Gotham was having their name dragged through the dirt. Bruce doesn’t believe it for one second and uses Batman to get some answers. Not only is this storyline shocking because we’ve always believed the Wayne’s to be good people but it’s also very interesting. If this is all true then Bruce has become Batman for nothing, his name means nothing, everything he has done means nothing. So far this game has done Bruce Wayne a lot of justice, it really has humanised him and strongly shows his motivations for becoming Batman. 3102953-wayne_manor_1920x1080.jpg

On the Batman side of things, the combat is flawless and looks amazing. The fact that you have the ability to plan your fight pattern and then the game shows you that is really f***ing cool and gives the player a real sense of actually playing as Batman. The game also lets you link evidence together at a crime scene to create the story which visually is really cool and is a great way of keeping you engaged. I don’t want to get to spoilery but this is in the big picture so I can talk about it; the inclusion of Catwoman is pure genius because it shows Batmans lighter side because he secretly admires her skills.

Overall, I think the first episode is amazing and really excites me for what they can bring in the coming episodes. If you like comics and you like video games then this is a must play. Even if you don’t like video games you could still like this because it’s mainly story and quicktime events like most Telltale games.

If any of you have played it, what do you think?

Let me know if you guys want me to write about video games some more on this page.

Best Movies of 2016 So Far.

(There may be spoilers in this post, maybe? probably? Sure, there will be spoilers)

I’m sure we can all agree that 2016 has been a great year for movies so far, we are now in to the eighth month of the year and I could pick about ten amazing movies from this year so far. However, we’re going to cut it down to my top three favourites. Obviously these will be the definitive best movies of 2016 so far, no one elses opinion matters, this is 100% legitimately the top three movies of this year. (Don’t take me too seriously, I just talk crap mainly)

Lots of people were very sceptical about Deadpool making his big screen debut in February this year, however Fox proved everyone wrong by making an absolutely sublime movie. There is no superhero movie out there quite like Deadpool, it’s funny, romantic, action packed and has a great story. How many superhero movies can boast having all of those things? Certainly not you, yeah you, Batman Vs Superman. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool and Deadpool is Ryan Reynolds, all you have to do is follow Reynolds on Twitter to see that. The movie is so well cast and I honestly can’t fault it.

I may be bias because I’m a big Deadpool fan but that doesn’t change the fact that Deadpool has the 2nd highest profit percentage of any movie this year, it’s quite incredible that the foul mouthed mercenary has become a hit on the big screen.

We can always rely on Disney to make a classic kids film and they certainly did it again with Zootopia (Zootropolis if you’re in the UK like me). What Zootopia does well is appeal to both adults and children, obviously the characters are very playful and child like but there are some very adult undertones. The references towards other Disney films such as Frozen are absolutely fantastic and a great little Easter egg but the best reference is to Breaking Bad, it’s just a great nod to all the adults out there. It’s really hard to find something bad in Zootopia because everything from the animation to the storyline is awesome and a lot fun. Highly recommended.

Captain America Civil War:

After the disappointing run for Batman Vs Superman (If you think it’s good, great but you’re wrong. If you like the story, great but you’re wrong) there was a lot of pressure on Civil War to be a great movie and it didn’t let anyone down. Marvel carried on with there great track record by making the best superhero movie of all time. The arcs of both Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are intriguing and epic. We’ve seen these guys in the cinema for a while now but Civil War feels so fresh and different and that’s a credit to the actors taking their characters to another level. The inclusion of Spiderman in the movie just made it that bit more special, welcoming the webslinger back to Marvel.

Obviously we still have four months left to receive some great movies and I have very high hopes for Suicide Squad, I haven’t been so excited for a movie since Deadpool. The movie industry keeps bettering itself every year and lets hope that continues.
